32nd TFA Tourism Forum Alpine Regions in Grindelwald Roland Zegg Urs Kessler

"I want to give something back to the industry."

At the 32nd TFA Tourism Forum Alpine Regions, TFA founder Roland Zegg emphasizes the importance of sustainable business cultures in tourism. The tourism and mountain railway industries met at the TFA in Grindelwald from March 20 to 22. Forum founder Roland Zegg has been providing the tourism sector with valuable input for over thirty years, this year on the topic of "New Energy".

Mr. Zegg, what insights will you take away from the 32nd TFA?

Tourism is a contributor to climate change. It is our own responsibility to consistently reduce CO₂ emissions in all business activities, tourism architecture and the management of guest behavior and mobility. Generation Z and younger people have a different attitude to work, leisure and career than older generations. We cannot do without this generation of employees. There are ways in which we can attract young professionals. To do this, we need to adapt employee management and traditional working models.

The TFA motto was "New Energy". Does tourism still need to be made more aware of the energy issue?

Education and incentive measures are urgently needed. The technology for this is available and ready for the market. Many possibilities lie within the sphere of influence of the individual tourism company.

You have been committed to sustainability issues for many years. Where do you get your energy from?

I am deeply convinced that sustainable business practices and the careful treatment of employees as well as natural and financial resources are the best form of entrepreneurial activity. I would like to use the experience I have gained in management consulting to give something back to the industry that goes far beyond business efficiency. I want to make my contribution to a culture of sustainability in tourism businesses.
