Berghotel Randolins, St. Moritz - With a lot of commitment and innovative ideas directly to ibex fairstay gold

The Randolins mountain hotel in St. Moritz proves that affordable vacations for families, sports enthusiasts and sun-seekers are also possible in the Engadin. For guests, the focus is on consciously experiencing the wonderful region. Behind the scenes, a lot is being done to save resources and work together cooperatively. The Berghotel Randolins was rightly rewarded with ibex fairstay gold in its first certification.

"With our Randolins family resort, we offer families attractively priced vacation options that are otherwise hard to find in this price range in the Upper Engadine," says director Stephan Amsler. Together with his wife Isabella Scheuermann, he runs the Randolins with great commitment and vision. In addition to the family resort, the six hotels include the Hostel by Randolins with simple rooms and shared bathrooms as well as the Berghotel Randolins. Three different hotels with three different marketing strategies, individually tailored to the needs of the respective guest segments - this is unique in the Upper Engadine and is well received. The hotel is also doing well in the area of sustainability. Bronze was the target for the initial certification, but the hotel's strong regional focus, conscious use of resources and exemplary social commitment earned it gold straight away.

Enjoyable quality check

Two to three times a year, all employees taste the dishes on the menu together. "This is partly for quality control and partly for training purposes," explains Isabella Scheuermann, adding: "Once the employees have seen the dishes for themselves and know where the products come from, they can recommend and sell them extensively" - for example the lamb from Zuoz. New employees are also invited to stay at the hotel as guests so that they can not only get to know the Randolin's philosophy across the board, but also live it out to the outside world. For the past year, the hotel has remained open from June to April. This is also a niche for travelers in November and a welcome extension for annual jobs.

Close cooperation with producers

The team also demonstrates innovation with its in-house specialties. Together with the Pontresina Alpine dairy, a cheese mutschli with a special pepper blend was developed, which is available exclusively at breakfast and as a souvenir. The "Randolins" alpine herbal tea was created in close collaboration with tea supplier Raselli in Le Prese. And a dinner at the Randolins by the owner of the Bad bakery in St. Moritz brought the hotel a wonderful collaboration: since she praised the fine salads and vegetarian dishes, the hotel kitchen has been supplying various take-away dishes to the bakery.

Adventure room and treasure hunt

The hotel buildings on the Suvretta slope used to house an observatory with research missions. The telescope is now on display in the entrance area of the hotel and the former observatory has been converted into an adventure room. The hatch provides an almost panoramic view of the Upper Engadin mountains and the starry sky, which is largely spared from light pollution. "We want to offer our guests an experience, something special far removed from any run-of-the-mill vacation," says Isabella Scheuermann. The team also wants to inspire the youngest guests with lots of creativity and is planning a treasure hunt in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Of course, the staff will test the treasure hunt in advance so that they can recommend the new highlight out of personal conviction.
